Dear Business and Health Professionals,
Alaska Wellness Magazine is looking for articles, short stories,
cartoons and art work by lay people as well as experts. We want your
help to educate the public in the ways of health and wellness.
The audience you will be appealing to is of a wide variety -- from
grass-roots activists to those seeking or involved in therapy, from
parents working to create a healthier lifestyle for their children to
those reading about holistic health and the mind-body-spirit
connection for the first time. Our readers are interested in
self-improvement, psychology, physical fitness, health and improving
the quality of their lives. There are many who are afraid of the
increasing disease rate on the planet and have come to the conclusion
they need other options in health care -- and self-care. Wellness
wants to give our readers an overview of those alternatives and teach
self-responsibility both in health care and in the management of our
daily lives.
At present, Alaska Wellness does not pay for articles. Our
goal is to publish interesting, informative, enlightening articles from
Alaskan professionals or those who come to Alaska to teach. This helps
build business for natural health professionals and educates the
public with the array of alternative health and self-improvement
therapies our state has to offer.
Please note: you do not have to be a professional writer to
have share your valuable information with our readers. Our editor will
work with you to help shape your article into something that others
can benefit from, without losing your unique style and voice.
We welcome articles on a wide variety of subjects: healing styles
and modalities; general health; physical fitness and exercise;
nutrition; politics; tools to improve work and home environments;
psychology; spiritual ideas and principles; natural childbirth and
birth stories; and personal stories of emotional healing, miracles and
spiritual experiences.
We are NOT interested in "infomercials" or articles that
serve only to encourage readers to attend workshops or seminars.
Instead, all articles should include a bit of wisdom, insight,
education or information that can be shared with readers simply
through reading.
Articles can range from the very short (only a few hundred words)
up to about 1200 words. In general, we like to keep all pieces within
this word count range. We sometimes run a series of articles, in
which a topic is discussed in several issues of our magazine. If you
have an idea for a longer article or series of articles, please e-mail
our editor first.
It is the policy of Alaska Wellness Magazine that first
preference for article space shall go to advertisers, unless it is
a public service article (for example, such topics in the past have
included the dangers of MSG, aspartame and vaccinations) or personal
healing stories that may help others. New advertisers have preference
over previously published advertisers. Much of the time we do not have
free space to publish non-advertisers because so many advertisers
submit articles.
Article copy can be e-mailed to Alaska Wellness at jackie@alaskawellness.com
or directly to the editor at editor@alaskawellness.com.
Articles can also be faxed, sent by regular mail, or sent as an
attachment (RTF files only!), though we prefer a simple
Copy & Paste into the email itself. (Please: No elaborate
formatting and no pictures imbedded into any articles.) We
may hold your work until it fits into an issue
if we don't use it right away.
Again, we encourage writers to gear their articles toward empowering the reader and
sharing information that all readers can use.
Thank you for adding your voice to the Voice of Alaska Wellness!
Jackie Kosednar, Publisher
Advertising Policy
We are always looking for the best articles that meet the Alaska
Wellness criteria.
Advertisers have first preference for article space. This is provided
that the article is relevant to Alaska health and wellness, NOT an
infomercial, and something that we want to publish. (Our editor is happy
to work with those who desire to share their knowledge and ideas but are
not professional writers.) New advertisers have preference over
previously published advertisers.
To be considered as a columnist, you must be an advertiser. This
means having an on-going contract at the 6-issue price with promise of a
one issue notice if you decide to quit after your first year. To submit
an idea for a column, send a short proposal to the editor. Columns are
always up to the editor’s discretion. It the column no longer works,
it could be canceled.
Please be aware that we work on a two-month lead time. This means
that articles considered for the March/April issue must be submitted by
January 1; articles considered for the May/June issue must be submitted
by March 1, and so on. Each issue usually has a theme. Contact the
editor to learn of the theme for the issue you are considered, or check
below for upcoming themes. If you submit an article that is not focused
on a particular theme, we may use it or hold it for another issue.
Everyone is welcome to submit healing testimonials and small public
service articles at any time.
