What we call ego is a strange mixture of self-centered awarenesses. These are beautiful and good except when the lens is distorted and we think our bodies and souls are threatened. Then we defend fearfully. That's what many refer to as ego. Healthy ego grows its awareness of self into oneness with all things, connecting to and identifying with the divine. Sick, sad ego claws, whines, and manipulates desperately, clinging to shreds of imagined security. It is in the divine that the ego question dissolves into a simple awareness of self as beautiful, kind, good, loving. Humility becomes an extraordinary paradox of self-love and selfless love. At the lower levels is the vast body of confusion that invites debate, splits into infinite dualities, multiplies fears, and divides territories. At the top of the spiritual food chain nothing is devoured. Subscription to Eman8tions "Thought for the Day" is free.
