The Full Story |
|
We have the illusion of too much information to absorb. But we are actually not getting enough information. The structure of media communications inhibits genuine development of information other than a few facts, which are often shown later to be erroneous. The most common expression of the problem is that we receive sound bites. But it is much deeper than that. We don't hear the story. We hear the verbal equivalent of a cartoon, a flat character notable for the exaggeration of the most prominent feature. Thus, we miss any of the subtlety of real events. We become used to superficial stories, things that do not give us the opportunity to think. When we hear "axis of evil," what is there to think? That's just plain bad, those axes of evil. Who would ever approve of them? But we need details, real stories, questions that lead to more stories, information that comes alive and grows, demands explanations, more information. What we hear is that we are out of time. We're out of time. Can't tell the full story here. And where is here? Everywhere. See how often you really understand a story, get the depth and history of it versus how often you are asked to respond to the verbal cartoon. It diminishes the spirit. We become accustomed to meaningless information. When we begin to go within in a spiritual way, where we have time, infinite time, we begin to feel the depth of reality, the divine. We begin to recognize the emptiness pretending to be news. We realize the absence of true story. The way to peace and a better world is for us to reach deeply within to the unfoolable place of the soul in communion with the divine. That's where spiritual maturity begins to build a better world.
