What's New In Business? |
|
Hello! And welcome to a new column for Alaska Wellness Magazine. In every issue, I will feature an advertiser new to the magazine as well as an "old faithful" -- a long-time participant in the alternative healing community. I will also present a few news shorts for businesses that are relocating or sponsoring upcoming events, or otherwise have special announcements. Business is dynamic. Our advertisers often place notices for a year in both this magazine and the Healthy Yellow Pages. The focus of this column is to highlight businesses in greater depth than advertisements can, and to make us all aware as consumers what our wonderful options are here in Alaska. I hope you will enjoy this column. Please send your personal comments
and/or news about your business to me at NewRealities@alaska.com
or 868-8050. WHERE IS THE TOOTH SHAMAN? Dr. Fred's new office is located on his small family farm just outside of Palmer on the way to Hatcher Pass. It is clearly a well-loved piece of earth, and the view is exceptional. The upstairs office offers a pleasant and unique dental experience, for Pioneer Peak dominates the south-facing windows of the cozy waiting room. An easy chair off in a corner with a nice view of Lazy Mountain has lulled more than one waiting patient into a peaceful cat nap! Richly colorful parkie-making supplies for Dr. Fred's wife Connie's mail-order fabric business cover one wall, providing a comforting distraction not often found in the office of a dentist. If you are so inclined, you can wait outside on the deck. From there, you can observe oxen grazing at the back end of the Musk Ox Farm, right next door to Dr. Fred's front yard. In addition, the family's own farm animals provide interesting viewing for both children and adults. All this and Dr. Fred too -- the man with the most gentle hands ever to pull a tooth! You can continue to count on him to do the best job for you with the least amount of exposure to toxic materials possible. At Dr. Fred's, you are considered family and treated to holistic dentistry at its finest. Look for Dr. Fred's ad this issue. FLY AWAY WITH TREASURES FROM THE MAGIC CARPET! Beginning in 1989, Mary spent three years in Thailand learning the
language, culture, and rituals: the result of her experiences there,
and throughout South-East Asia, was a burning desire to bring the beauty
of treasures found all over the globe to the people of Alaska. The full
story is too long to relate here, but well-worth reading, so be sure
to access her web-site at www.themagiccarpet.net
for the inside scoop. Mary opened her first store in Fairbanks in the basement of the College Mall.
Two years ago, she expanded the business to include a seasonal store
in Denali. Now, Anchorage is fortunate to have its very own The Magic
Carpet. The store is full of marvelous treasures, and the company's
mission -- as purveyors of beautiful delights from around the world
such as clothing, jewelry, gifts, statuary, and altar supplies -- is
to bring pleasure and a touch of the extraordinary to the lives of anyone
who comes their way. Amy Mack, store manger in Anchorage, has put her heart and soul into the business. She not only orchestrates an ambiance to the delight of the senses, but is eager to create innovative opportunities for both the store and downtown. She has made the store available for workshops, mini-psychic fairs, artists, and is continuously entertaining new ideas to promote interrelationships with local businesses. Please contact the store for upcoming events. NEWS BRIEFS: Pepper Shaykin, International Psychic and National Tarot-Card Reading
